Tips for candidates and recruiters on how to adapt

With the rise of AI, massive layoffs, and a move from remote to hybrid work arrangements, tech companies have faced economic challenges over the past year and a half. These factors significantly impacted recruitment, prompting companies to adapt. However, despite these obstacles, companies are poised to continue hiring in mid-2024, although in a changed landscape.

In this article, we’ve covered some of the changes in hiring as they affect both candidates and recruiters.

*Based on various research studies, we have shared our vision.

The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Hiring

We must discuss artificial intelligence, as everything seems to revolve around it. We won’t go into details, but we will make assumptions about how it will affect the hiring process.

Cover Letters and ChatGPT

Let’s start with letters. Candidates and recruiters have already begun using ChatGPT to write cover letters and first letters to candidates. The upside is that chat helps with composing nice-looking letters. However, as a candidate, you will probably either face or have already faced a massive amount of the same type of emails from recruiters, and most likely, you will ignore these emails. In this respect, recruiters who compose personalized emails with more human language, even with a bit of help from chat, will be at an advantage. After all, authenticity still wins hearts.

Tip for recruiters

Leveraging AI can enhance personalization and add uniqueness to your message. However, we advise against directly copying the Chat GPT letter. Instead, take the time to read the candidate’s profile, add specific details, and craft a personalized letter, albeit with AI’s help. This approach will make the candidates feel you’ve tailored the message specifically for them, leading to greater appreciation!

Tip for candidates

The recommendation here would be similar. In a highly competitive market, you need to stand out. While AI can assist with cover letter composition, consider modifying standard templates and incorporating specific details relevant to your desired position. Additionally, leverage AI assistants to customize your resume for a particular job. Your objective is to shine brightly amidst hundreds or thousands of suitable applicants!

The Technical Interview

If we talk about technical interviews, we have already encountered candidates using Google or ChatGPT to answer questions. However, there are increasingly new tools that allow candidates to answer questions without typing them on the keyboard—the voice assistant identifies the question and gives the answer. This is a challenge for technical interviewers, so they develop new questions and tasks.

Tip for candidates

During technical interviews, interviewers often ask questions not to get the correct answer but to see your mindset. In such scenarios, relying on personal reflection rather than AI assistance is advisable. However, we can assume that soon (if not already), there will be specific tasks from interviewers to demonstrate mastery of ChatGPT or other AI assistants.

 Tip for recruiters

AI can be a valuable tool for helping recruiters prepare for interviews. It can analyze a candidate’s experience and create personalized interview questions.

Recruiters always try to make their work more convenient and find automated tools to speed up routine tasks. However, regarding communication with candidates, a human approach and personalization will be more relevant now than ever.

The Return to Hybrid Work Schedules

One of the most pressing issues on today’s agenda revolves around the return to hybrid work schedules (a flexible approach that combines working in an office environment with working from home). You’ve likely come across news about tech giants implementing their “Return to Office” (RTO) policies. You have heard that tens of thousands of employees are not happy about this and are starting to look for new jobs due to their refusal to return to the offices for various reasons.

We advise candidates to pay attention to the work format in the job description and openly ask the recruiter questions about it. At the same time, the recruiter should ensure that the job description includes WFH (Work From Home) /Office/Hybrid, answer questions honestly, and even take the initiative to discuss it.

At Coherent Solutions, we’ve taken a distinct path. Our fully remote work format allows employees to choose between visiting the office or working entirely from home. This flexibility empowers our team members to find their optimal work environment. As recruiters, we’re prepared to address candidates’ inquiries about our work format, emphasizing that we prioritize individual preferences.

Other trends

  • Pay Transparency: To prevent discrimination against specific categories of employees, companies will audit their pay approaches more frequently and update their performance management models. Such openness fosters trust among employees and contributes to a sense of fairness. This approach aligns well with the evolving job market, which increasingly values ethical practices.
  • Internal Talent Pool: To drive business growth, companies will need to focus on internal mobility, talent markets, and career development for their existing workforce. Artificial intelligence technologies will help make the employee training process more efficient and personalized.

Every employee needs to have the opportunity to grow professionally, which is why Coherent Solutions offers a variety of learning and development programs.

For example, our company has a training center that helps employees learn modern technologies and new programming languages, systematize professional knowledge, and improve technical and teamwork skills.

Also, each of our employees has a Group Manager. This experienced employee is responsible for guiding you through your career at the company, helping you set and achieve career and professional development goals and more.

To share experiences and discuss technological innovations, we regularly organize various meet-ups.

As we can see, the hiring process is changing.  Economic conditions and the surge in artificial intelligence have left their mark on recruitment practices. However, amidst these shifts, one constant prevails honesty and clear communication during the hiring process, which is a win-win situation for both recruiters and candidates. Embrace adaptation while keeping an optimistic outlook.
